#SEAexpo2014 It’s Showtime

The 2014 SEAexpo (Showbiz, Entertainment & Arts Expo) is finally here, under the Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival. The SEAexpo is Africa’s exhibition and conference show for the creative industries. This ranges from music, dance & poetry, photography, fashion, arts & crafts, digital, radio, marketing, eventsto digital and the likes. The two day exhibition and conference show takes place on the 9th & 10th September at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, in Newtown.

“It has been a long time coming and we are very excited that the SEAexpo is finally here. First of its kind to be hosted in South Africa for Africa, this is the most exciting and anticipated exhibition and conference show for the creative industries. calendar and the programme features heavyweight speakers from the industry as well as a variety of diverse initiatives that will make this event an integral African launch pad for fresh creative content. It’s all about inspiring new business opportunities” says the SEAexpo founder, Peter ‘Blasto’ Sibeko.

Exhibitors on the exhibition floor include the likes of Vuyani Dance Theatre, Adobe Creative Cloud, Market Theatre Foundation, Blackfuse Communications, Contento, Old Mutual, Microsoft, Proudly South African, PPM Attorneys, Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation and many more. Visitors can also enjoy educational workshops and entertainment from some of these exhibitors, including performances from talented dances, signing of autographs from Joyous Celebration , and legal workshops from attorneys.

Running concurrently to the exhibition is a great two-day conference show, which will be unpacking the theme of ‘Creative industries’ role on the economic stage’. Each day has been split into sub-themes that speak to the above overall theme. The 1st day will be about ‘The role’: That is, creative industries taking their place and understanding the pivotal role they’re going to play on the economic stage. This will be a broad understanding and setting the scene of how the role of these industries needs to be defined. The 2nd day will be ‘The performance’: That is to say, once the “role” is better understood, then the creative industries need to understand how to execute, or perform, their role. The focus will be on moving the creative industries in the direction where the SEAexpo sparks networking opportunities to conduct conversations beyond the expo, in building towards the 2015 SEAexpo.

The conference will see invigorating talks from the likes of Advocate Leslie Sedibe (CEO: Proudly South African), Yvonne Chaka Chaka (Chairperson: Creative Cultural Industries Federation of South Africa), DJ Sbu (Executive chairman: Leadership 2020), the honourable Elizabeth Thabethe (Deputy Minister: Department of Small Business Development), Mteto Nyati (General Manager for Emerging Regions, Middle East and Africa: Microsoft), the legendary Welcome Msomi and many more.

Furthermore, radio and broadcast legend, Bob Mabena of Kaya FM will be hosting a panel discussion on the synergistic alliances among the inter-related creative industries. Amongst the panellists include DJ Shimza (renowned DJ and producer), Greg Maloka (Managing director: Kaya FM), Vuyisile Mshudulu (Deputy director for creative industries: Department of Trade & Industry) and Ilsa Grabe (business unit head and media manager: Carat SA). The event is destined to become essential for furthering the entertainment industry framework.
On both days, the event starts at 9am and ends at 8pm
Entrance fees at the door are as follows: Adults R50; Students R30 (student card is required); Pensioners R30 and Children under 12 get in for free
